Dear Dad who just had a daughter,
I’m not gonna lie, I was hoping for a boy. I know. That sounds so shitty. It’s just that I thought maybe I could ease into the whole parent thing by starting out with a boy. You know, same equipment and all that.
But we had a girl. And, it turns out, having a daughter is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Hands down.
I know that right now it’s terrifying because of stuff like the whole wipe from the front thing. Or is it the back? But all that stuff will pale in comparison to how awesome it is the first time she looks into your eyes and smiles. And you realize this little girl, she’s looking up to you.
And then you figure out that, with the exception of peeing while standing up (I tried), there’s nothing you can’t do with daughters. My girls and I do science experiments, build cities out of bricks, go to games, and play air guitar together.
And then we bake cookies. Because cookies are awesome. And so are girls.
Congrats. You’re gonna love it.
From a dad who’s been there.
