Did you miss baby’s first word? This Mother’s Day, hear from a mom who’s been there.
Dear Mom Who Has Missed A Milestone, Or Two
My son’s first word was Mama. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to hear it. I was working. His daycare got it on camera and sent it to me. They thought it would be a fun surprise. Instead, it crushed me. He said his first word and all I got was this crappy video.
There’s a lot of stuff I’ve missed over the years, and yeah, I know it doesn’t matter to my son. I know he doesn’t give a damn if I was there or not but you know what, I do. I give like so many damns. And so do you.
Which is why I also want to tell you, about the times I was there. I was there to read him stories, to tuck him in, and sing him songs. To dance in the hallway, 14 to marvel at his artwork, and to witness his first publicly exclaimed four letter word. It was [email protected]$#.
And you’ll be there too, for so many firsts and so many lasts and so many other random amazing moments. And you’ll start to realize, like I did, that milestones can be all sorts of things. And that some of those small, seemingly insignificant moments actually turn out to be the memories you treasure the most.
