Why is My Toddler a Picky Eater?
You may have noticed that your toddler has become a very picky eater. When babies turn into toddlers, taking their first step, it’s often also the time that something called food neophobia begins. This is a physical fear response to new foods. So, why would that be?
Well, when someone toddles away from parents for the first time and picks a berry and eats it, that berry could be toxic. Or, if the child were to toddle away and pick a leaf out of all the green things in the meadow and eat that, that might be poisonous. So, toddlers have this inbuilt response to be afraid – physically afraid – of foods that are new flavors, new textures, new sources of food, new styles of eating. It’s really as it should be. It’s extremely common, and it doesn’t last forever.
