At Plum, we’re reimagining nutrition from the very first bite and using business as a force for good. But we’re also parents and husbands and sisters and snackers and storytellers and Green Bay Packers fanatics (ok, that’s just one of us) who like to bring our dogs to work sometimes. And we’d love for you to get to know us a little better.
Meet Lexie Cousens, our sr. innovation associate who turns ideas into real products for little ones to enjoy. She’s a woman of many talents, so let’s learn more about her!
Current city/living set up:
I currently live in Alameda, which is a little island off Oakland in the East Bay with my husband, dog, and cat. We live less than a mile from the beach, so we spend a lot of time running, biking, and enjoying being by the water.
Life outside of work:
I love to run and exercise, and I’ve also been getting really into baking bread! My husband and I recently took a bread-baking class and have been whipping up loaves all the time lately. I like to have an art project going on and have been making quilts in my free time. It’s also a treat to have time to relax with my dog Hank and take it easy at home together.
Favorite Plum product?
Definitely the Mighty Morning Bars, because it was the first product that I worked on from start to finish at Plum – from initial idea to the bars you now find in stores! They taste amazing, have only 4 grams of sugar, are made with whole grains, and are perfect with a cup of coffee or before a workout.
Favorite office snack?
I’ve been loving the fresh fruit we have at the office, and I like keeping an orange or pear at my desk for snacks throughout the day.
What do you do at Plum?
I am a sr. innovation associate, which means that I facilitate the process that determines which products we make. From dreaming up out-there ideas to narrowing it down into packaging, flavors, and format, to the process of getting products made, shipped and sold in stores. From the idea to the day it is shipped to retailers I work within all facets of the business. It’s a cross-functional role that I love.
What’s the best thing about working here?
The people that work here are so welcoming and create an environment where I feel comfortable being myself. My coworkers are my friends outside of the office, and having that kind of ease with my teammates makes me a better worker overall where I know I can speak my mind and share my ideas.
I also appreciate how Plum recognizes different working styles and empowers us to manage our schedules in the ways that make each of us most productive. I’m a morning person and prefer to come in earlier to take advantage of those quiet early morning hours, so I love that I can work in the ways and times that maximize my day.
