As a Bay Area company, we engage with our local community as much as we can. It’s one of the ways we Lead with Heart (one of Plum’s three Core Truths). Not only do we enjoy giving back to the neighborhood in our very own Emeryville backyard, but we also love that our work serves as a great opportunity to bond as a team outside the office.
Recently, we teamed up with City Slickers Farms, a West Oakland farm that empowers community members to meet the basic need for healthy food by creating organic, sustainable, and high-yield urban farms and backyard gardens. The City Slicker Farm demonstrates viability of a local food-production system and specifically seeks to serve people with the least access in West Oakland.
Several of us stepped away from the office, rolled up our sleeves and headed outside for the afternoon to help transform the space. Plum volunteers assisted with various farming projects, ranging from clearing the space of weeds to planting new tomato seeds to wheelbarrowing mounds of mulch around the garden, and much more!
As an organic food company, helping ALL communities get access to nutritious, whole foods is a cause we’re personally passionate about. Big thanks to City Slickers for inviting us to the farm for the afternoon! Want to learn more? Check out all the impactful work they’re doing in West Oakland.
